Tuesday's Ripest Pick: The Other Side of the Story by Janice Hardy

As you may have read last week, The Ripest Pick is a blog that I've found to have a substantial amount of excellent backposts. It's organized, professional, and most of all: useful.

In the meantime, I try to choose blogs with less than 1,000 followers (and yes, I'll continue to sneak in two recommended bigwigs each week like Kristen Lamb and Natalie Whipple.)

This weeks Ripest Pick is The Other Side of the Story. The author, Janice Hardy, has also published a YA trilogy entitled The Healing Wars.

Once again, we have a well-organized sidebar where writers can drink (and make appreciative cat-calls), at a fountain of information.

Some of my favorite goodies?

The best summary of how to figure out your genre that I've ever seen.

Advice on describing action, or how not to. This post saved a prison-escape scene I once wrote. Saved it from the over-flowery-dungeons of reader Hell.

Finding too many sentences starting with your character's name? Too many pronouns? Wait, is it your narrator who is describing things, or is it your MC? Your narrative distance may be out of whack. Trust me, you want to know this.

And yes, a treasure trove of recommended blogs and websites.

So, did you find any green grass on the Other Side of the Story?
